
Ilkay Nehir Tanyel, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Ilkay “Nehir” Tanyel is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems and Cyber Security in the Alvarez College of Business at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Cincinnati. Nehir's research focuses on the power of digital technologies to address societal, political, and economic challenges. She is currently working on several projects that explore the tension between the potential for positive influence and the risks associated with the acquisition and exercise of power in the context of digital technologies, such as social media. Nehir's work has been accepted for publication in the Information Systems Journal, presented and included in the proceedings of the 2021 and 2022 ICIS, and is currently under revision at top journals in information systems. She has served as an associate editor for ICIS and ECIS and has chaired sessions on the societal impacts of technology at the INFORMS Annual Meeting since 2023.
When she’s not buried under mounds of data and research papers, Nehir loves to travel and explore different cuisines. She is currently exploring food options in San Antonio.
